Story of My Life: 28 Years in 28 songs

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”

-Plato

I’m one of those people that pays attention to all the details in the movies. Especially the background music. Sometimes I even find myself closing my eyes and literally “feeling” the songs during the scenes.  I can tell if the moment is happy, sad, dangerous, a love scene, a fight scene, etc.. all based on the lyrics, the melody, the crescendos….

***deep sigh***

I just really appreciate the language of music.

So with that being my relationship to the art of vocal and instrumental sound, I decided to make a soundtrack to my life. Of course there’s 28 songs in honor of my Golden Birthday. It was hard narrowing them down, but I think these songs sum up my life pretty well. At first I wasn’t sure if I just wanted to list them, or throw in the Youtube videos, or even write a little blurb about why I chose the songs, but music is up for interpretation. It’s meant to be expressed and understood in different ways. So some songs I did that with and some I didn’t. The ones I chose to drop the video and explanation for I want you to try the way I listen to music sometimes. I want you to think about the memory I shared. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. And listen to the song. Can you feel what I may have felt? Can you see what I may have seen?  Or just close your eyes and dance like no ones watching. If you have Apple Music here’s the link. But otherwise you can enjoy the YouTube videos below.

  1. “I Was Here”- Beyonce (EVERY WORD in this song resonates with my soul.)
