Wasssssssuuuuuuuup! Welcome to my blog “Dear Future.” Let me just start off by saying thank you for taking the time out of your day to check this out. Hopefully, what I write doesn’t leave you feeling like you wasted time that you’ll never be able to get back (I know that’s the worst!) So here goes nothing.

It all started with a Facebook stat to my future husband (don’t judge me).  I had just bought my first home and it was my first time living away from my parents. That’s a huge shift from being a college student at home to being independent and “adulting” everyday.

“Adulting (v): to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5  job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown ups.” Urban Dictionary

Literally, I went from procrastinating and starting 20 page papers a day before the due date, to starting my career and paying a mortgage. But adulting and being a home owner is sooooooo much more than just going to work and paying bills. As a new home owner and newly freed from parental custody, I began to enjoy life on my own. Painting the walls of my home the colors I wanted. Buying the furniture and decorations I wanted. Going out when I wanted and not having to drive 30 mins to and from home. Praise! But it took me a while to grasp the whole maintenance thing of home ownership. You know, the day to day things that keep the house hold a float like cooking and cleaning regularly lol

But the maintenance thing that was brand new to me and sparked the Facebook status was lawn care. My father always mowed the lawn at home. I’m not going to say that it was the typical “man of the house” job, but It was just something he did. I never even thought about it until I got a yard of my own and it started looking like a vacant lot. And of course I didn’t have a lawnmower cuz who thinks about that when they first move out. So eventually my dad came over and let me borrow his lawnmower and at age 25, I mowed the lawn for the first time. In hindsight, it really shouldn’t have been a big deal LOL. It wasn’t hard and I didn’t mind doing it. BUT it wasn’t something I wanted to do on a regular basis. So I wrote to my future husband telling him that he can take care of that chore (Related: Dear Future Husband-Mowing the Lawn) I continued to write to my future husband about my adventures as a young single black female home owner, waiting for “Mr. Right” to pop up. Some people encouraged me to write a book or a blog and well……here am I.

But I didn’t want to limit the blog to just being about my future husband. My vision is to use my past and present experiences, thoughts, and opinions to spark dialogue and encourage others as we all try to navigate life. And maybe inspire people to strive for greatness and dream big in all aspects of love, travel, work, and just life in general. Cuz sometimes, somewhere along the way, we get so caught up in “adulting”  that we limit or even lose our hopes and dreams. We get caught up in what we HAVE to do/what we NEED, instead of taking the time to reflect on what we have and remembering/preparing for the things we WANT to do /want to HAVE.

You still with me? Does that make sense? I hope so. If not its ok. I appreciate you reading this far. If you have any more time to waste click around to read my ramblings and hopefully something sparks your interest. Or you could just click around to be nosy, get my views up lol.
